Charroux in the Bourbonnais, one of the most beautiful villages in France

In the heart of the Bourbonnais, a village to discover

Village of Charroux, holidays in Gannat and Vichy

Standing at 413 m above sea level, Charroux is a small village in the canton of Chantelle with around 320 inhabitants, overlooking the surrounding plains and valleys. This position gives it a magnificent panorama over the Limagne plain to the north and the Auvergne mountains to the south. It is part of the Bourbonnais region.

Listed among the Plus Beaux Villages de France (Most Beautiful Villages of France), Charroux is the only village in the département to hold this label. From what was, from the Middle Ages onwards, an autonomous fortified town with its own privileges, Charroux has retained the complexity and extent of its urban layout. The village offers plenty of tourist services (accommodation and restaurants).

In this village, you can admire its 12th-century church and visit its museum, which traces the life of the village.

Stroll through its old streets and admire its wells, the clock tower, the Porte d'Orient, the house of the Prince de Condé, the "Cour des Dames", the covered market hall, and more.
