Staying in Gannat for a business trip between Vichy, Riom and Clermont

For an assignment between Vichy, Riom and Clermont-Ferrand, Gannat is a practical base: the town is about twenty minutes from Vichy and Riom, connected to the A71 by the A719, and its station is served by TER regional trains to Riom and Clermont. Here is how to organise a business stay lasting anything from a few nights to several months.

Why stay in Gannat rather than in the city?

Gannat is 18 km west of Vichy and just over 40 km north of Clermont-Ferrand. This location means you can work on either side without changing accommodation. That is useful when an assignment has you alternating between several sites, or when a team is working on a project in the north of the Puy-de-Dôme or the south of the Allier.

Another advantage: outside major events, such as the late-July festival, it is easier to find a whole house or several apartments at the same address in Gannat than in the larger neighbouring towns. Parking is also simpler.

Journey times to the main hubs

The times below are rough estimates by car, outside rush hour. They may be longer during office hours, especially on the way into Clermont-Ferrand.

• Vichy: about twenty minutes via the A719, which arrives at the Espinasse-Vozelle roundabout, on the edge of the urban area.
• Riom: about twenty minutes via the A71 (exit 13 Riom, Volvic, Châtel-Guyon).
• North Clermont-Ferrand: the A71 serves Gerzat and the Ladoux industrial area (exit 14), then Clermont-Ferrand Nord (exit 15).
• East Clermont and the airport: exit 16 (Le Brézet) serves the eastern districts, Aulnat and the university hospital (CHU).
• Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule: via the A719 and the Gannat, Saint-Pourçain exit.

Getting around without a car

If you work in Riom or Clermont-Ferrand, the train can replace the car. TER trains link Gannat to Riom in 15 to 25 minutes, and some direct trains reach Clermont-Ferrand in around thirty minutes. The number of trains is limited and varies from day to day: check your times on SNCF Connect before committing to an assignment without a car.

There are fewer trains to Vichy. A regional coach line also links Gannat to Vichy, with a stop at Gannat SNCF station. Timetables are published on La Région vous transporte. For an assignment in Vichy, a car remains the most flexible choice.

What you need for a work stay

A business trip does not have the same requirements as a holiday. Here is what we offer:

A few tips for a long assignment:

• Book early if your assignment covers the end of July: festival week is in very high demand in Gannat.
• For a team, ask for properties at the same address: it makes the morning car share easier.
• Check that the property you choose has parking if you are coming with a company vehicle.
